Sustainable Dev’t
A Talk about Sustainable Development
Sustainable development can take on different situations and circumstances but can only have one meaning. A farmer saves up his earnings to purchase land and farm equipment to hand over to his son when his time comes to retire; a group of fishermen starts up a mangrove reforestation program to provide sanctuary for fish and other marine animals; parents invest money on college plans for their children; a group of foresters replant fast growing varieties of trees in denuded areas; the list can go on and on, but what do we see? Each example stated only one message, which is to prepare and take care of things for the benefit of the future generation, so that they could also experience and utilize things around them just like we do right now. It is not a choice that we make for them, it is their right!
Why the need for sustainable development?
The FLSS Group of Companies particularly the Singko Maynila Foundation is involved in charitable work: 1.) Feeding 4000 street children every 18th of December; 2.) Free health check-ups together with the Free Masons; and 3.) Hospital and funeral assistance for the less fortunate. Mr. Christian PW Faust saw that the Philippines, the less privileged people, needed jobs (long term jobs) to be able to uplift themselves from their current state. Charity is a very noble event to take part in, but FLSS are starting to do away with band aides and providing sustainable jobs and opportunities for the people in dear need (even though, charitable events will still continue).
